kartofl studio
We design hospitality and other large, experience-driven projects shaped by climate, movement, and common sense.
Based in India. Working internationally.
We’re Vanessa and Lakshman
an architecture and design duo who believe good ideas start with listening, observing, and understanding the land. Creators of Build Informed
Climate-Responsive Design
passive strategies that reduce long-term operational load
Hospitality & Wellbeing
more than 7 years of experience in hospitality
Thoughtful Planning
layouts that encourage connection and flow
We take on only a handful of projects,
going deep into research, systems, detail, and experience - creating spaces that are intelligent, grounded, and truly unique.
Working with us
We enjoy working with clients who:
Are working on mid-scale to large projects
Care about long-term value
Don’t mind asking (or answering) uncomfortable questions
Prefer collaboration over instructions
We don’t try to take on a lot of work - just the right kind.
Think first. Draw later.
Analysis
We study terrain, water, climate, access, operations, and use-patterns.
We enjoy complex sites, real-world limitations, and the kind of problems that benefit from slowing down before building.
Our work typically involves:
Planning & systems
Circulation, services, energy, waste, and phasing are part of the design from day one.
Design & Execution support
Materials, light, and spatial experience come together with restraint and intent.
We specialize in:
Eco-resorts and hospitality
Sustainable housing and communities
Masterplanning & urban design
Landscape-integrated architecture
Research, feasibility, and strategy
